Butterflies are keystone species, and we are losing them on account of various issues such as anthropogenic climate change and concomitant habitat loss. Planting native plants in our gardens and cutting use of pesticides are some measures that can help save butterflies. Another great way is to teach people about butterflies by bringing these underrated beauties into public attention via photographs and educational videos. There are around 20,000 described species of butterflies on our planet; every species relies on specific host plants (sometimes animals) which are essential for their survival. If we lose them, the ecosystem cannot sustain itself.
